What is the Replant Option (RO)?

The Replant Option (RO) is a private supplemental insurance product designed to provide additional financial protection when replanting is necessary.

It works alongside your Multi-Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI) policy, delivering added support beyond standard replant payments.

How does the Replant Option work?

RO provides an additional indemnity payment when qualifying crops must be replanted due to covered causes of loss.

  • Payments are made in addition to MPCI replant payments
  • Coverage applies to eligible acres listed on your application
  • Designed to help offset the cost and risk of replanting

This ensures stronger financial protection during one of the most vulnerable stages of the growing season.

Who is eligible for the Replant Option?

To qualify for RO, you must:

  • Have an active MPCI buy-up policy (YP, RP, or RP-HPE)
  • Apply by the sales closing date (SCD) each crop year

RO can be written as either:

  • An annual policy, or
  • A continuous policy through Advantage RO

What crops are covered?

The Replant Option is available for select crops, including:

  • Corn (grain)
  • Soybeans
  • Cotton
  • Rice

Double-crop soybeans that are insurable under MPCI are also eligible for RO coverage.

Where is coverage available?

RO is currently offered in select states, including:

  • Alabama
  • Arkansas
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Kentucky
  • Louisiana
  • Mississippi
  • North Carolina
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Virginia

How much coverage is available?

Producers can select from fixed dollar-per-acre coverage levels, depending on the state:

  • $20, $30, $40, or $50 per acre (in most eligible states)
  • $20, $30, or $40 per acre (in AR, LA, and MS)

There is:

  • A $50 minimum premium
  • No deductible, allowing for straightforward protection

Why purchase RO?

RO delivers key benefits, including:

  • Additional payments beyond MPCI coverage
  • Simple, fixed per-acre protection
  • No deductible
  • Coverage for early-season replant risk

It helps ensure your operation can recover quickly and efficiently after early crop setbacks.

Are there any limitations or exclusions?

Yes. RO is not available for:

  • Catastrophic (CAT) or area-based policies
  • Uninsurable or unclassified acreage
  • Second crops
  • Organic practices under MPCI
  • Policies issued through written agreement
  • Most high-risk acreage (with limited exceptions)

Additionally, RO is not federally reinsured, as it is a private insurance product.

Why choose the Replant Option?

RO provides growers with:

  • Added financial security during planting season
  • Protection where traditional coverage may fall short
  • Flexible, easy-to-understand coverage options
  • Faster recovery from early-season losses

It’s a smart way to strengthen your risk management plan when conditions are most uncertain.
