Apiculture
What is Apiculture Insurance?
Apiculture Insurance provides beekeepers with protection against production losses caused by insufficient rainfall. It uses a rainfall index to estimate local conditions and determine when coverage should trigger, giving operations a dependable safety net.
Why is Apiculture Insurance important for beekeepers?
Your bees depend on healthy, thriving plants, and those plants depend on rainfall. This insurance helps protect your primary income sources, including honey, pollen collection, wax and breeding stock, by paying a claim when rainfall levels drop below expected conditions.
How does the Rainfall Index work?
Coverage is based on a grid system and two‑month index intervals. You select your coverage level, protection factor, grid location and the intervals you want to insure. If the final index for your grid falls below your chosen trigger point, a loss payment is issued.
Is apiculture coverage based on my individual farm’s weather?
No. The program uses regional climate data for your selected grid, not individual weather stations or on‑farm measurements. This ensures consistent, objective results across all insured operations within the same grid.
Where is Apiculture Insurance available?
Apiculture Insurance is available throughout the 48 contiguous states, except in some grids which cross international borders.
Do I need to insure all my colonies with Apiculture Insurance?
You can choose how many colonies to insure. Coverage simply cannot exceed the total number of colonies you own.
