Cassie Gathman Brings Firsthand Livestock Experience to AgriSompo

AgriSompo’s livestock business is supported by a dedicated team with specialized knowledge and tools designed to help agents serve livestock producers with confidence. Through Livestock Risk Protection, Dairy Revenue Protection and Livestock Gross Margin, AgriSompo helps provide price and revenue risk management options for cattle, swine and dairy producers.

For Cassie Gathman, livestock operations manager at AgriSompo, that work is both professional and personal.

Gathman grew up on a family farm with cattle and show pigs, giving her an early connection to agriculture and livestock production. Today, she continues to live on a farm in central Illinois, where her family operation includes row crop acres, cattle, custom-fed feeder calves and a finishing barn for pigs.

“I grew up on a farm, so this is my comfort zone,” Gathman said. “I wanted to stay in agriculture because there is a lot of passion there.”

That background has helped shape the way she approaches her work at AgriSompo. In her role, Gathman helps support the day-to-day needs of the livestock team, including answering questions, reviewing policy language and helping resolve issues. She also supports training efforts as the team serves as a resource for agents who want to better understand livestock coverage.

That level of support is a critical part of what AgriSompo offers to agents who sell livestock insurance. Agents have access to:

  • A dedicated team of livestock specialists.

  • Trained business development representatives.

  • Powerful decision tools within AgriNet Quoting.

  • Efficient, easy-to-use processing tools.

  • Always-available training resources.

  • Claims service focused on speed, accuracy and transparency.

One important distinction, Gathman said, is that livestock insurance is price-based. Coverage applies to cattle, swine and milk, but it is not casualty based. Instead, coverage is tied to market movement and whether prices decline.

Livestock also operates on a different sales timeline. Rather than having one major sales closing period, Gathman said the livestock team works with frequent deadlines. Coverage windows can be short, which means agents may need support quickly as they work to bind coverage for producers.

That pace makes accuracy, communication and responsiveness especially important.

Gathman has been with AgriSompo for 10 years. She started in claims processing before moving into livestock after she was encouraged to apply by someone she knew through 4-H. Since then, she has built a career that allows her to combine her personal background in agriculture with her professional experience.

For Gathman, the people remain one of the most meaningful parts of the work.

“The people are what make you want to stay,” she said. “Everyone is friendly, and it feels very genuine to be working in this industry.”

Her connection to agriculture gives her a strong understanding of the producers, agents and team members involved in this work. She understands the challenges, rewards and pressures that come with farming and raising livestock, and she brings that perspective into her role each day.

“This lifestyle is so unique,” Gathman said. “There are struggles and rewards that come with growing up on a farm and being part of that community.”

As AgriSompo continues to support livestock producers and the agents who serve them, Gathman’s story highlights the value of firsthand industry experience. Her background, knowledge and commitment exemplify the importance of having a trusted team that agents can rely on.
