One of the goals of this ASNA award is to promote high levels of customer service within the company, and Karen received several nominations from agents in the second quarter of 2023. What’s her secret to success? The communications team recently asked her a few questions to find out.
You received multiple nominations this quarter, and most of them mentioned your kindness and patience. Your job can be stressful – how do you maintain your high level of customer service (your kindness and patience) during the tough times?
Its not always easy, but I try to focus on people and not just the problems. It really is a people and relationship business. I’ve learned over many years of taking care of agents, insureds, and their issues that staying patient and kind can only help in challenging situations.
What do you enjoy the most about your role?
I really enjoy helping people. It helps me to remember that what I do impacts people, businesses, and communities.
How would you define great customer service?
It might be cliché, but it is the core of customer service – treat others how you want to be treated. If you keep it that simple and unselfish, it becomes easy.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in their career? What wisdom would you impart to them?
Be a learner. I’m still learning new things every day. If you can set your ego and pride to the side and see others as being on the same team trying to achieve the same goal, you will go far.
