AgriSompo teams share the latest on crop conditions and harvest progress in the Great Lakes and Midwest regions.
Great Lakes
At a farm near Carmi, Illinois, favorable weather has contributed to record yields across most fields. In some cornfields, yields have surpassed previous records by 20 bushels per acre.
Early planting supported strong soybean yields, and the farm is on track to complete harvest earlier than ever before.
Midwest
Across most of Missouri, corn is in good to excellent condition. Soybeans are also in good to excellent condition across much of northern Missouri, while heat and a lack of late-summer rain have reduced yields in southwest Missouri.
In the Bootheel, cotton, peanuts and rice are performing exceptionally well, with very limited reports of pill bug damage in row rice.
Upper Midwest
Early reports show strong corn and soybean yields in parts of southern and central Minnesota, with lower yields reported farther north in Minnesota and North Dakota. Wheat yields were good across the region, with generally favorable reports for canola and sunflowers.
Recent rain has slowed harvest, though much of the moisture was welcome in east-central North Dakota. Corn harvest results remain limited in the hardest-hit areas.
