In Greenville, Mississippi, corn and soybeans looked promising before harvest began. As harvest progresses, producers are seeing varying results across crops, with soybean production showing significant improvement from the previous year.
Corn yields are projected to reach 185 to 190 bushels per acre. Dryland soybeans are producing about 55 bushels per acre so far, an increase of 20 to 30 bushels per acre compared with the previous year.
In Lee County, South Carolina, corn producers faced exceptionally dry conditions throughout the growing season. Areas affected by D4 (exceptional) drought experienced poor pollination conditions and reduced yields, particularly in non-irrigated fields.
While irrigated corn performed more favorably, prolonged drought conditions continued to impact production across the area.
In Petersburg, Texas, corn entered August with strong yield potential before a stretch of extreme heat moved into the region. Several days with temperatures above 100 degrees created challenging conditions as harvest approached.
Corn yields are averaging about 160 bushels per acre. While the heat affected production in some areas, harvest continues across the region as producers assess results and move toward completion.
