On November 4, 2022, a late-season tornado outbreak occurred, producing at least eighteen tornadoes across the southern U.S., including the states of Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Several of those tornadoes were significant (EF2 damage or higher) and resulted in two fatalities and at least twenty injuries.
Crop adjuster, Scott Gibbs of Ivanhoe, Texas, watching the weather reports at his home, realized that one of his customers was potentially in harm’s way. He texted Jack Bradshaw, a farmer insured by AgriSompo North America whose farm was in the pathway of a dangerous storm. He asked if Jack’s family was safe and if there was anything he could do to help. Jack informed him that the family was safe, but their home, two barns, working pens, and nearly forty 150-year-old pecan trees were all destroyed by a tornado that had swept through the area that day.
At first, Jack was hesitant to ask for help, but after reconsidering, he asked Scott if he could potentially bring out some equipment to help with the substantial cleanup efforts. Scott acted immediately, showing up with a large tractor and multiple chain saws. He helped wherever he could and spent many hours sawing down five-feet wide tree stumps.
Jack recalls that other helpers on the farm cleanup would ask, “Who’s that guy?” He was proud to tell them that was Scott Gibbs, his crop insurance adjuster.
Word spread about Scott’s actions on that day and he was eventually nominated for an ASNA Silver Circle Award for Customer Service. He won that award in the first quarter of 2023 and went on to be nominated for a new award, the SOMPO Award for ASNA’s parent company, Sompo Holdings. Over 1,000 people across the entire world were nominated in various categories for one of these prestigious new awards.
To his surprise, Scott Gibbs, Senior Adjuster for the Southwest Region of ASNA, won the Learning from Challenge SOMPO Award. On July 13, Scott and his wife traveled to Tokyo, Japan for the official awards ceremony.
When asked about his award win and his trip to Japan, Scott says it was the trip of a lifetime, but he doesn’t feel like he did anything that special. He says, “I just did what anyone in that situation would do to help.”
AgriSompo North America is incredibly proud to count Scott among their many caring and talented team members. His willingness to just jump in and help, his work ethic, and his humility make him a shining example of what this company is proud to celebrate.
Congratulations to Scott Gibbs – we thank you for being a wonderful example of exemplary customer service.
