Using AI with purpose

By Elizabeth Gorzney, Vice President of AI Strategy and Business Integration

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the way businesses access information, complete routine tasks and make decisions. As these tools continue to evolve, the most important question is not what AI can do, but how people can use it to create meaningful value.

In my new role at AgriSompo, I am partnering with teams across the organization to identify practical opportunities where AI can help us better support agents and producers. Through my experience leading technology, data and AI initiatives across industries, one lesson has remained consistent: AI delivers the greatest value when it helps people apply their expertise more effectively.

Technology should strengthen relationships

Crop insurance has always been a relationship-driven business. Producers rely on trusted advisors who understand their operation, answer questions and help them navigate important decisions.

AI cannot replace those relationships or the knowledge that experienced agents bring to them. What it can do is help make expertise more accessible by organizing information, reducing administrative work and providing faster access to insights. That allows agents to spend less time searching for information and more time serving customers.

Start with the problem, not the technology

The most valuable AI solutions are often the simplest. Rather than beginning with a new tool, start with a business challenge.

Ask:

  • What task takes too much time?
  • What information is difficult to find or organize?
  • Where could better insights support decision-making?
  • How can technology help me provide a better customer experience?

When AI is applied to a meaningful business need, its value becomes much easier to measure.

Expertise remains essential

AI can summarize information, identify patterns and generate recommendations. But it does not understand a producer's operation, market conditions or the unique circumstances behind a business decision.

That is why human judgment remains essential. Successful AI adoption combines technology with the experience, context and relationships that agents have built over time.

Looking ahead

As AI capabilities continue to evolve, building familiarity with these tools will become increasingly important. The goal is not to adopt technology for technology's sake. The goal is to use it thoughtfully to work more effectively, strengthen customer relationships and create better outcomes.

At AgriSompo, we believe the future of AI is not about replacing expertise. It is about helping people apply their expertise in more powerful ways. That is how we will continue to support agents, serve producers and grow together.
