Celebrating Women in Agriculture and One Agent’s Journey of Leadership, Service and Impact

This week, we’re proud to feature Michelle Olin, a crop insurance agent and owner of F.A.R.M. 1, LLC in Stronghurst, Illinois. With twenty-six years of experience in the agriculture industry, Olin shares her journey and perspective on the vital role she plays in supporting farmers and their operations.

What are the roles you play today, and how do they impact the agriculture industry?

I honestly cannot believe I am in this profession, but I absolutely love it. As the owner and operator of a crop insurance company, my role extends beyond business operations to supporting my producers and safeguarding their livelihoods.

Why is it meaningful to you to dedicate your time, talents, and energy to agriculture?

Our farmers not only feed our world, they also contribute to countless industries through the millions of products derived from their crops.

Reflecting on the past year, what has been the most challenging experience you've faced and how did you overcome it?

One of the consistent struggles for producers is managing high input costs while facing fluctuating prices. Farmers must continually adapt to find solutions that best fit their operations, and my role is to help protect those needs.

What accomplishment in agriculture are you most proud of?

I am proud and try to provide my farmers with the best service around! In Stronghurst, there are so many good agents and we each prioritize both quality coverage and outstanding service. Being able to consistently meet the needs of my farmers and earn their trust is one of my greatest accomplishments!

What networks or communities have been instrumental in your journey, and how have they helped you grow?

The farming community is incredibly close-knit, and being part of such a supportive network has been invaluable to my growth. I’ve always sought out the best partners to work with and AgriSompo has been exceptional in this regard. They consistently provide reliable support, whether it’s answering questions promptly or offering access to top-tier adjusters who collaborate seamlessly with our company. Additionally, they introduced me to Tilley, a powerful software program that has significantly enhanced my ability to serve my producers more effectively. These partnerships have been crucial to my success in navigating the complexities of the agriculture industry.

How do you continue to build your skills and grow professionally?

I make it a priority to stay informed on the latest developments in marketing trends, FSA updates and crop insurance changes, as these are all closely tied to the farming industry. Education is at the core of my work. Helping farmers understand the coverage they carry and how it applies to their operations is my top responsibility. By continuing to enhance my knowledge, I aim to provide the highest level of service and remain a trusted resource for my producers.
